Diodes Newly Pushed Linear LED Driver AL5802

Diodes recently introduced the AL5802 linear LED driver to provide a simple, cost-effective and low-EMI solution.

The AL5802 is available in a SOT26 package and features an open-collector output that can operate from a 0.8V to 30V voltage range. It supports 12V and 24V power supplies and provides LED currents from 20mA to 100mA for applications such as LED displays, lamps, and automotive interior displays. .

The driver incorporates a high-gain NPN transistor with a pre-biased NPN output transistor rated at 30V, which is sufficient to control the current of up to nine low-power LEDs in series.

The only external accessory required for this driver is an external low-value resistor to set the LED current. Its built-in high-gain transistor generates a 0.65V reference voltage in the resistor, which reduces power loss and ensures sufficient power. When the reference voltage has a negative temperature coefficient, the LED current is automatically reduced at a high temperature, thereby protecting the LED and improving the reliability of the circuit.

PWM brightness adjustment function is simple, only need to apply low impedance voltage to the bias pin of AL5802, or through open collector NPN transistor, or open drain N channel MOSFET to drive enable pin ( Enable pin) to adjust the current pulse width of the LED string. The AL5802 has a wide operating temperature range from -40 °C to 125 °C. It can be installed very close to the LED in space-limited lighting applications.
