With the development of society, people are increasingly demanding living and working conditions, and the community monitoring/intelligent building automation system has become the current development direction. The traditional industrial control system has gradually gained the approval of the civil industry with its high reliability and stability. The network has become an indispensable part of people's daily life, and the network expansion function of industrial control systems has been more and more widely used in building control. This paper introduces the application of PLC commonly used in traditional industrial control systems in building control. In 1991, Echelon Corporation of the United States proposed the LonWorks (Local Opera TIng Networks) network, referred to as the L0N network, which marked a new era of control system networks. LonWorks is a complete, fully open, interoperable, mature and low-cost distributed control network technology. Many manufacturers and users use LonWorks technology in their control network solutions. So far, more than 2,500 companies worldwide have used LonWorks technology to produce a wide range of LonWorks products to meet modern buildings, factories, transportation systems, urban infrastructure (water, electricity, gas, etc.), homes, etc. Distributed control network requirements for automation systems. However, in the industrial environment prevalent in Profibus, Interbus, and CAN bus, there is obviously no strong competitiveness. As a result, LONWORKS has made great strides in buildings and in isolated industrial sites such as dyeing machines. Many engineering examples show that the building can be equipped with only a single LONWORKS network, allowing HVAC (heating, ventilation and cooling), electric lighting, sun shielding and safety functions, and open control devices to interoperate on the network. The reason is that everyone accepts the principle of distributed intelligent control. However, LONWORKS leads the traditional fieldbus communication technology based on RS485 with its excellent stability and flexible free topology routing technology. LONWORKS can meet special requirements ingeniously and economically. The foundation for solutions can be provided to developers in the form of functional profiles. A summary of functions for many devices such as engines, pumps, frequency converters, PLCs, valves, sensors, etc. Since the application prospect of LONWORKS in the industrial field has not been recognized by everyone, it has been greatly developed in the building automation industry. For the control of electromechanical equipment in building automation, LONWORKS does not have a big advantage, but this is the traditional PLC/IPC world. PLC/IPC firmly occupies the base of traditional industrial machinery/industrial equipment control with its versatility, reliability and low cost. This is why LONWORKS has not been able to develop much after competing with PLC/IPC for many years. However, after all, LONWORKS is technically ahead of today's industrial automation systems (PLC/IPC fieldbus) with its peer-to-peer design and intelligent distributed field devices. With the development of industrial automation and network technology, the network requirements for traditional PLCs are getting higher and higher, and the new term Industrial Ethernet has also appeared. And there is also a trend to replace the fieldbus.
