How to do Sony HD technology without TV

At present, the 4K era has entered the field of television, and the new products that are born have basically 4K Ultra HD resolution. Even some TV manufacturers have developed 8K, 10K resolutions and have to lament the speed of technological development. However, HDR high dynamic range technology is about to become a universal standard, but what about TVs without HDR technology? Sony demonstrated a black technology.

At this year's InterBee2015, Sony officially exhibited the so-called HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) standard. The HLG standard is registered by the BBC and NHK. In simple terms, a single signal can support HDR TV and non-HDR TV at the same time. The working principle of HLG is to decode the highlight and low-light parts of the HDR signal in two different ways. The former uses a logarithmic curve and the latter a standard gamma curve. Compared with serious HDR TVs, non-HDR TVs receiving HLG have slightly different display effects, but the perception is very close, and the experience is still improved.

The so-called HDR technology is simply a technique that allows the highlights of the images to be exposed and the low light not to be exposed, which means that details can be clearly displayed throughout the image. We often see the HDR three letters in photography, and it will also become the standard for future 4K TVs and 4K Blu-ray.
